The MIAA Announced its baseball players of the week on Tuesday (April 21). Earning MIAA Hitter of the Week honors was Tyler Robbins of Fort Hays State.Robbins, a 6-foot-0, 185-pound junior from Denver, Colo., batted .588 (10-of-17) with six runs batted in and six runs scored as the Tigers went 4-0 last week in conference road action.
He was 7-of-10 in the doubleheader sweep at then-No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha Sunday (April 19) with five RBI, three stolen bases and two runs scored. Robbins had four hits in the opener and picked up his only RBI during a six-run seventh as FHSU claimed an 11-4 win.
In the second game, Robbins was 3-for-5 with four runs batted in and a run scored -- his two-run single in the second inning gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead as they went on to take it by a 10-6 count.
He scored four runs for Fort Hays State in a sweep at Washburn Wednesday (April 15). He reached twice in four appearances at the plate in game one (a walk and hit by pitch) and scored twice in a 4-1 decision. He was 3-for-5 in the nightcap with a run-scoring single during a seven-run second frame, a double and two runs scored.
Robbins is a graduate of Cherry Creek (Colo.) High School, and transferred to FHSU from Garden City (Kan.) Community College.
