Fort Hays State baseball seniors Eric Gilliland and Dusty Washburn were honored on Thursday as CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team selections. They are two of just 11 players in District 7 of the College Division (includes NCAA Division II and III and NAIA) to earn this distinction. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced the All-MIAA Baseball Team for the 2009 season on Thursday (May 7). Fort Hays State had eight players named to the team, which included three second-team and five honorable mention selections. The Tigers honored on the team include Alex Harvey, Greg Bieker, A.J. The top 12 players and head coach in RMAC baseball history have been selected to help celebrate the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's 100th anniversary in 2009. Three individuals from Fort Hays State were selected to the squad, which includes former head coach Bob Fornelli, along with players Jeff Bieker and Nate Field. The possibilty of snow, mixed with high winds and cold temperatures on Friday have pushed the series back. The Tigers had plenty of offensive firepower in the doubleheader, scoring a total of 20 runs over the two games, but came up on the losing end in both contests. The MIAA released its Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday (Jan. 28). Fort Hays State was selected fourth in the poll. The addition of Nebraska-Omaha to the conference this season has made the conference even tougher, as the Mavericks were a participant in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships two years ago. The Fort Hays State baseball team hosted Pittsburg State in the first two games of a four-game series with the Gorillas on Saturday afternoon (May 3) in Hays. The Tigers, already locked in as a participant at the MIAA Tournament, were attempting to move their record against NCAA opponents over .500 for regional consideration. However, the Tigers dropped both games of the doubleheader to Pittsburg State by scores of 5-4 and 15-7. The Fort Hays State baseball squad opened with the first two games of a four-game series with #14 ranked Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., on Saturday afternoon (April 19). The Tigers became the first team in 11 years to defeat the Mules in both games of a doubleheader in Warrensburg. The last time Central Missouri lost both games of a doubleheader on its home field was in 1997 against Missouri-Rolla. The Fort Hays State baseball squad hosted Truman State University on Saturday (April 12) in a conference doubleheader in Hays. It was a wild day at Larks Park, with rain, hail and sleet causing delays twice in game one, but it did not keep the Tigers from setting a new school record for runs in a game. The Tigers won game one 32-5, breaking the old school record for runs in a game of 28 set against Colorado Mines in 1982. The Fort Hays State baseball schedule has been adjusted once again. The Tigers will play at the Emporia State Tournament on Sunday and Monday this weekend instead of Saturday and Sunday. Sabath Announces Four Signings For 2009 Baseball Season

Fort Hays State University head baseball coach Rick Sabath announced the signing of four student athletes for the 2009 season. Three of the four will transfer from Colby Community College and one comes to the program from high school. The transfers include shortstop Sean Caggiano, outfielder Brennan Peterson and right-handed pitcher Garrett Morgan.
