Volleyball Newcomers make Impression in KVA All-Star Match

Kohler Signs Eight More Freshman for 2010

Fort Hays State University head volleyball coach Kurt Kohler announced the signing of eight more freshman for his 2010 recruiting class. Kohler signed 13 freshmen overall for next season after five inked with the Tigers in the early signing period in November. Kohler also has two transfers from Cloud County Community College that came to Fort Hays State for the spring semester of 2010. The eight new freshmen signings include Kirsten Chamberlin, Megan Hayes, Samantha Ledy, Lindsey Leonard, Haley MacDonald, Josey Nunnenkamp, Madison Schwartz, and Gabi Smith. Volleyball Lands Two All-Conference Selections

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released the 2009 All-MIAA Volleyball Team. Fort Hays State had two individuals earn all-conference honors, with Lilian Rezende landing a second-team selection and Lydia Karnopp an honorable mention selection. Fort Hays State University head volleyball coach Kurt Kohler announced the signing of five individuals for the 2010 volleyball season. All five are recruits from the high school ranks, which includes four players from Kansas and one from Nebraska. Three of the individuals are from Kansas Class 3A, one is from Class 1A, and the lone signing from Nebraska played in Class A (the class for the largest schools in Nebraska). The Tiger volleyball team hosted Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 7) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. With a 24-23 lead in the first set, the Tigers committed their fifth service error of the set, then SBU reeled off two straight points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Kohler Named New Head Volleyball Coach At FHSU

On Wednesday, January 7, 2009, Kurt Kohler was named the new head volleyball coach at Fort Hays State University. Kohler comes to Fort Hays State from Barton County Community College, where he coached volleyball during the 2005-06 season, but then took over as Barton County’s athletic director for the past two and a half years. After falling down 2-0 in the match, FHSU forced five games in the match in a remarkable comeback effort. Junior college transfers are Alissa Tonniges from Central Community College (Neb.) and Samantha Kern from Otero Junior College (Colo.).
