The Fort Hays State wrestling squad hosted Western State College in a battle of ranked teams at Gross Memorial Coliseum on Friday evening (Feb. 5). The Tigers, ranked No. 15 in the nation, defeated the No. 12 ranked Mountaineers by a score of 27-10 to remain unbeaten in RMAC duals. FHSU Wrestling Wins First Annual Kansas Cup

The Fort Hays State wrestling team competed in the first annual Kansas Cup in Wichita, Kan., on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 31). The event was held at Newman University. The event pitted the seven collegiate wrestling programs in Kansas (NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA) in a team scoring tournament format. Fort Hays State won the event with 134.5 points and was followed by Labette with 126.

The Fort Hays State wrestling squad competed in the NWCA/Cliff Keen Division II National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Saturday, January 9. The #14 ranked Tigers lost their opening dual of the double-elimination tournament to #8 Augustana by a score of 27-12. The Tigers picked up a win in their next dual over #18 Central Missouri by a score of 25-6. The #13 ranked Tigers took on #4 ranked Central Oklahoma. FHSU made a late run at UCO, winning four straight matches to make the score 16-12 after trailing 16-0 at intermission. The Fort Hays State wrestling squad held its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Thursday evening at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, Kan. The dual, which had only nine matches, ended in a 17-17 tie. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday, October 20. Fort Hays State was picked to finish fourth in the 11-team conference. Adams State was picked to finish first after finishing second in the conference standings last year. Following the Grizzlies in the poll are Western State and Nebraska-Kearney. Fort Hays State wrestling coach Chas Thompson announced the signing of four more student-athletes for the 2009-2010 year. The individuals signing with FHSU include Josh Martinez, Steven Kyler, Chance Rencountre, and Jesse Gantz. Rencountre is the only transfer among the four as the other three are true freshmen. The four individuals join Mitchell Means, who was an early signing for the Tigers. Read more...

Fort Hays State had five wrestlers named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Team on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Junior Danny Grater was the lone Tiger to earn first team honors. Junior Shawn Kuhlman earned second team honors. Junior Levi Younkin and sophomores Cody Gillespie and Dylan Loyd were each listed to the honor roll. To qualify for the honor, the individuals must have a GPA of 3.20 or better, be a starter or key reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters of three quarters at their current institution. The Fort Hays State wrestling team landed four individuals on the 2008-2009 NWCA Division II All-Academic Team. The Tigers as a team ranked ninth in the nation with a GPA of 3.192. Truman State won the Academic National Championship for the third year in a row with a 3.467 team GPA. Earning first team honors for FHSU was Danny Grater. The Fort Hays State wrestling squad took to the road on Thursday evening for a non-conference dual with #5 ranked Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. The teams locked up in a very exciting dual that came down to the last match, which pitted 184 pounders Tyler Gonzales (FHSU) and Daniel Morrison (UCO). Fort Hays State University wrestling coach Cody Bickley announced the signing of Levi Younkin for the 2008-09 season. Younkin, a native of Oakley, Kan., wrestled for two years at Colby Community College. He was a NJCAA All-American as a freshman for CCC, placing sixth at nationals in 2005-06. Younkin spent last year at Wichita State University, where he wrestled for WSU's club team. He finished fifth in the nation at club nationals in 2007-08. Read more...

Fort Hays State University head wrestling coach Cody Bickley announced today the signing of Tommy Edgmon for the 2008-09 season. Edgmon, a native of Goddard, Kan., will wrestle at 125 pounds and comes to the program from Pratt Community College. While at Pratt CC, he was a two-time NJCAA Qualifier and was ranked as high as #4 in the country his sophomore season. In high school, he was a three-time state champion and finished his career with an overall record of 122-16. His senior season, he was named the Class 6A Wrestler of the Year. He was also a Brute Adidas Nationals Champion.

The Fort Hays State wrestling program held its post-season banquet last Friday night inside the new Robbins Alumni Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Tiger Takedown Club and Whiskey Creek, who prepared the meal. Upon completion of the meal, head coach Cody Bickley announced several awards and a season-recap video was shown.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association released its Division II All-Academic Wrestling Team for the 2007-08 season. Eight individuals from Fort Hays State received the honors out of 133 student athletes selected from 35 universities and colleges. Fort Hays State ranked third in team GPA (3.243), behind Truman State (3.394) and Nebraska-Kearney (3.334). Truman State has now won the Academic National Championship as a team the past two years. The Fort Hays State wrestling team was in action on Saturday evening and hosted Grand Canyon University. On a night in which head coach Cody Bickley was honored for becoming the new all-time duals winner in FHSU wrestling history, the Tigers would win all 10 matches and shut out the Antelopes by a final score of 51-0. In honor of FHSU head wrestling coach becoming the all-time winningest coach in the program's history, the Fort Hays State Athletic Department is offering free admission to all Tiger fans for next Saturday’s dual against Grand Canyon University. Dual time on February 9 is set for 7:00 p.m. from Gross Memorial Coliseum. Upon completion of the dual, the Fort Hays State Athletic Department will also be hosting a post-dual reception in honor of Bickley, which will be open to the public. The #18-ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team competed in the Northern
Colorado Open this past Sunday in Greeley, Colorado. The Tigers had five
individuals place in the tournament including Danny Grater, who was the 157 pound
individual champion. Others who placed in the tournament were James Annon, who
finished second at 141 pounds, Blake Malloy, who finished second at 174 pounds,
Josh Pfannenstiel, who finished third at 149 pounds and Dustin Martin, who finished
fourth at 285 pounds.

Fort Hays State University head wrestling coach Cody Bickley announced today the team captains for the 2007-2008 wrestling season. The Tigers will have four team captains this season. The captains include Phil Hart, Tyler Gonzales, Danny Grater and Blake Malloy. All four wrestlers were fixtures in the Tiger wrestling lineup last season.
