Fort Hays State used a 14-0 run early to build a 17-2 lead and cruised the rest of the way to a 78-63 win over Lincoln in Hays on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 21). The 25th ranked Tigers moved to 13-4 overall and 7-4 in the MIAA with the win. Lincoln dropped to 3-13 overall and 3-8 in the MIAA.

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team turned an 11-point first half deficit into a seven-point lead with just over seven minutes to play on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 21) at Gross Memorial Coliseum, but the Lady Tigers were unable to finish the game. Lincoln took advantage of FHSU miscues down the stretch and sent the game to overtime tied at 70-70 after a basket from Arriana Walker with 10 seconds to play in regulation. Fort Hays State was again unable to put Lincoln away in the extra session and the Blue Tigers got two free throws from Bria Dillard with 3.5 seconds to play to give them a 76-75 victory.

No. 11 Adams State won three of the last four matches to erase a 16-6 deficit and defeated No. 15 Fort Hays State on Thursday night (Jan. 19) in Alamosa, Colo. The close dual saw both teams win five matches each. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-2 in duals and 2-2 in the RMAC.

Fort Hays State football seniors Alex Whitehill and Ethan Kosjer added yet another honor to their long list of accomplishments for the 2011 season as they were honored as Don Hansen All-Americans on Thursday, January 19. Kosjer was named to the first team at punter, while Whitehill earned third team honors at linebacker. This is the fourth All-American honor for Whitehill this year and third for Kosjer.

Anna Eigruber
Women's Track and Field
Anna Eigruber earned Athlete of the Week honors for her performance at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 21), hosted by Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.

Eigruber, a sophomore from McPherson, Kan., won the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 8.5 inches to take the event by 7 inches over Kasey Hill. The distance is the 13th-best in Division II this season. The 18 feet, 8.5 inches is also Eigruber's personal best on the season.

The Tigers track and field team travels to Kansas Jayhawk Classic on Friday (Jan. 27).
Tyrone Phillips
Men's Basketball
Tyrone Phillips earned Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in two Fort Hays State men's basketball wins. The No. 25-ranked Tigers pulled out a thrilling 72-67 overtime win at Emporia State on Wednesday and then defeated Lincoln at home on Saturday, 78-63. FHSU is 13-4 on the season and 7-4 in the MIAA.

Phillips, a junior from Portland, Ore., averaged 18.5 points in the two victories. In the overtime win over the Hornets, Phillips scored 12 first-half points on 5-of-7 shooting, including two 3-pointers. He finished the game with 14 points, which was second on the team behind Moses Dayee's 15. Phillips finished with a game-high three steals and added three assists.

Phillips totaled a team-high 23 points in the 78-63 win over Lincoln. He shot 8-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. In a season-high 35 minutes, Phillips also had three rebounds, two assists and one steal. The 23 points were the second most scored by Phillips this season behind his 24-point performance against Central Christian on Nov. 18.

For the season, Phillips is averaging 12.1 points per game, which is second on the team behind Karon McKenzie's 12.2, 1.7 rebounds, one steal and one assist. He is shooting 52.1 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from 3-point range, while also shooting 80 percent from the free throw line.

The Tigers head to the road for their next three games, traveling to Northwest Missouri on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 3 p.m. in Maryville, Mo. FHSU then travels to Missouri Western on Monday (Jan. 30) and then to Washburn on Saturday, Feb. 4.
