The Fort Hays State women's basketball team finished up a three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) in Topeka against No. 11 Washburn. The Lady Tigers stayed close for most of the game before Washburn pulled ahead and took the victory 75-55. Kate Lehman blocked four shots in the game, giving her 66 blocks for the year and a new single-season FHSU record, surpassing Erica Biel's previous record of 64.

2.5.12 | Women's Track and Field
The Fort Hays State women's track and field team traveled to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3 &4) in Lincoln, Neb. Sam Szczublewski and Anna Eigruber were the top two finishers for the Tigers, placing fourth and sixth, respectively. The Tigers competed against many top Division I programs at the event.

2.3.12 | Women's Soccer
The Fort Hays State women's soccer program added 10 new student-athletes to the team for the 2012 signing class, which Fort Hays State women's soccer coach Craig Shaw announced today (Feb. 3). The 10 signee are all incoming freshman with six from Colorado and four from Kansas. Shaw signed four forwards, two midfielders, three defenders and one goalkeeper in the class.

The wrestling dual between Fort Hays State and Colorado Mines scheduled for Friday night (Feb. 3) in Hays has been postponed. No make up date has been set at this time. Fort Hays State's next action scheduled will be a home dual against Colorado Mesa on February 9 at 7 pm.

Fort Hays State men's soccer player Carlos Linares has been selected to tryouts for the Salvadoran under 23 national team. Linares, a standout defender for the Tigers, is one of 17 players, including only four defenders, invited to the camp in Los Angeles, Calif.

The MIAA released its Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday (Feb. 2). Fort Hays State was picked fourth in the 11-team conference behind Central Missouri, Emporia State, and Missouri Western. Central Missouri (No. 3) and Emporia State (No. 8) are both in the top 10 of the preseason national rankings. The Tigers finished fourth in the MIAA in each of the past two years.

Traci Keyser
Women's Basketball
Traci Keyser earned Athlete of the Week for being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team as a first team selection on the District 6 team. The Capital One Academic-All District Teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.

Keyser is the second-leading scorer for the Lady Tigers, averaging 10.5 points per game, and she is one of three players who have started all 22 games this season. She ranks second in the MIAA in free throw shooting percentage at 87.0% (80-of-92) after leading the conference in 2010-11. She has also set a new single-season FHSU record for free throw percentage in each of her first two years with the program. Keyser has recently moved into the top 10 in various all-time categories at FHSU and she ranks 8th in school history with 89 made three-point field goals.

This is the first Academic All-District selection for Keyser, who is a native of Cambridge, Neb. She holds a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Management and she was one of two Fort Hays State athletes to earn the MIAA Academic Excellence Award for the 2010-11 school year.

Fort Hays State will return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 8) against Truman. Game time is 5:30 p.m at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.
Lance Russell
Men's Basketball
Lance Russell earned Athlete of the Week honors this week for his performance for the Fort Hays State men's basketball program. The redshirt junior guard scored in double figures in both FHSU games this week, averaging 13.5 points per game. The Tigers went 1-1 on the week with a road win over Missouri Western, 62-58, on Monday; however, the Tigers fell on the road at Washburn, 79-67, on Saturday. FHSU is 14-6 on the season, including 8-6 in the MIAA.

Russell, a key reserve this season, scored a team-high in points in both games. In the win over Missouri Western, Russell notched 13 points in 24 minutes. He shot 5-of-7 from the field, including 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Russell pulled in four rebounds in the win as well.

In just 17 minutes against Washburn, Russell totalled 16 points and two rebounds. The Wichita, Kan. native shot 50 percent from the field, shooting 5-of-10. He was 3-of-5 from 3. Russell also had one steal in the game.

On the season, Russell has appeared in all 20 games off the bench. Russell averages 6.9 points and three rebounds per game in just under 19 minutes per game. He is third on the team in field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage at 49.5 percent and 39.2 percent, respectively. Russell has totalled 16 assists, 15 steals and seven blocks this season.

The Tigers return home for two straight games this week. FHSU welcomes Truman to Gross Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday (Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m. and then on Saturday (Feb. 11), the Tigers play Central Missouri at 4 p.m.
