The Fort Hays State volleyball program begins its second season under head coach
Kurt Kohler after finishing 7-27 overall in 2009, with a 3-17 record in the MIAA. Only three letterwinners return for the Tigers, whose roster will feature 14 freshman and 2 junior college transfers.
Setters
The only senior on the 2010 roster for the Tigers is Whitney Liggett from Limon, Colo. Liggett started 33 of the teams 34 matches in 2009 and led the team in assists. Freshmen Haley MacDonald (Littleton, Colo.) and Hillery Sibole (Omaha, Neb.) will also compete for time at the position. Macdonald was an all-league selection in 2009 for Dakota Ridge High School while Sibole was a four-year letterwinner at Millard West High School.
Defensive Specialists/Liberos
Several newcomers will also compete for playing time in the defensive role. The lone returner to the position is Maddy Mall, a Hays native who appeared in three matches last season for the Tigers.
Kirsten Chamberlin (Wichita, Kan.), Gabi Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and Makenzie Weinman (Phillipsburg, Kan.) lead the list of newcomers who could see time. Chamberlin played for Maize High School and in 2009 was on the KVA all-state second team. Smith was an all-league libero selection in 2009 and Weinman helped her team to a state runner-up finish as a senior. Also with a chance to see time at the position is Lindsey Leonard.
