After the Tigers eliminated Washburn by a score of 11-7 on Friday evening, only three teams remain in the 2012 MIAA Baseball Tournament Championship in Kansas City, Kan. Central Missouri and Missouri Western meet at 11 am Saturday and the loser will play Fort Hays State at 2:30 pm for the chance to play the winner of the 11 am game in the championship Sunday.
The Tigers enter Saturday at 28-23 overall and are 2-1 so far at the MIAA Tournament. Fort Hays State elminated Missouri Southern on Thursday in single-elimination play, then lost to Central Missouri Friday morning in the start of double-elimination play before knocking out Washburn later in the evening.
If the Tigers win on Saturday, they would have to win twice on Sunday to claim the tournament championship, as the winner of the 11 am game Saturday will still have no losses in the tournament.
In the game against Washburn on Friday evening,
Ryan Busboom, Fort Hays State's top offensive player this year, was hit in the head by a pitch in the eighth inning. The ball struck the bill of the helmet first before hitting his face. Busboom suffered a broken nose but is fine otherwise. His availability for the remainder of the tournament is questionable.
